The Pifers Take Over Thailand!

Just a couple weeks ago I was out-of-nowhere surprised by two familiar faces at my front door. Even though I hadn't seen them in nearly two years, I knew exactly who they were as soon as that first sniff of delightful and unmistakable perfume hit me. Being a hound, that's usually how it goes...my nose knows before anything else does. I wasn't wrong this time either, as it was just who I thought....my beloved G-Ma (Grandma) and G-Pa (Grandpa)!!!! As you can  imagine I could hardly control my excitement. Yes, there may have been a few squeaks of piddle on the driveway. Don't judge me.

Unbeknownst to me, my grandparents had braved the twenty-one hour journey from San Francisco to Bangkok to visit us!!! Unlike my parents who had been looking forward to this trip for months, I was completely in the dark on the whole thing, which added an extra element of excitement!

Welcome to Thailand G-Ma and G-Pa!!!
With my grandparents here in our home in Bangkok, I came to the realization that we had two magical weeks to show them around our neighborhood...the crazy Kingdom of Thailand. I was giddy to say the least! This was our golden opportunity to shed some light on what we'd been up to the past two years, and of course have a bit of fun while doing it.

How cute are they!?!

During their time in the Big Mango we of course hit all our favorite sights and restaurants, but perhaps the most memorable moments were spent right here in our own home.

Day one we passed the afternoon lounging by the pool, catching up on all the latest and greatest in each other's crazy lives. It took some time to grasp the idea of it being 93°F out and swimming in a pool mid-November, especially considering it was snowing just up the hill from their house back in California.

Later that evening my momma and G-Ma got busy preparing a delicious batch of warm-your-soul white bean chicken chili. You know what they say...a belly full of comfort food before bed usually helps with the brutal jet lag! So in our steamy little Bangkok kitchen they laughed, diced, and chopped away while the most magical smells filled our entire house. Momma got the recipe from her good friend over at the Inquiring Chef, so as usual the end result was jaw dropping good. Everyone huddled around the coffee table while the Hangover 2 played in the background, slurping down bowls full of tasty chili. It was just what the doctor ordered: a simple, relaxing evening that I could tell meant a lot to my mom. Since we live so far away from each other, nights like these are cherished and oh-so-special.

No trip to Thailand would be complete without an excursion to the beach, so after just a few days in Bangkok they flew down South to Krabi for some serious sun and relaxation. To help ensure my grandparent's trip was the perfect escape they deserved, mommy and daddy had a few surprises planned at the hotel. The anticipation on the short one hour flight down south was practically unbearable.

Arriving at the resort they were blown away by the sight before them: Powdery white sand, lush, scented tropical gardens, and lazy palm trees swaying in the warm winds of the Andaman Sea. With the exception of G-Pa's brutal sunburn on day one by the pool, the trip was absolutely perfect. I'll let the pictures tell the story!

It wouldn't be a vacation without a little bubbly right!?!
After a relaxing four days down at the beach they returned to Bangkok to continue the party. It was time to begin preparations for our Thanksgiving celebration. Being our first time hosting Thanksgiving we were very thankful to be able to share it with so many wonderful friends and family. Remember, it's not where you're at, but who you're with that matters.
